Capricorn Full Moon 2015

The 2015 Capricorn full moon takes place on July 1, 2015 at 10:20PM EST. This moon is asking us to balance our masculine and feminine energies.

Full moons always add intensity to our lives as they push us to acknowledge and integrate the opposing forces within ourselves. The Capricorn moon is the first full moon of the summer. Summer is ruled by the fire element, so energies are burning hot. Earthly Capricorn can serve to bring us back down to earth for the first time since the Taurus cycle, providing us some much needed practicality.

During this full moon, we will wrestle with the opposing forces of our home and professional lives. The full moon is in Capricorn, the sign of the archetypal father and is opposing the sun in Cancer, the archetypal mother.

Capricorn seeks his fulfillment outside the home and craves external recognition and success. As the archetypal father, Capricorn isn’t afraid to put his foot down. He rules the areas of our lives concerned with structure, social institutions, finances, and governments. Nurturing Cancer wants to focus on emotional needs, family bonding, and domestic life. Mars is also in Cancer and is opposing this moon. Mars is typically a very active planet. But, in Cancer he may feel inclined to rest up at home. Moon is in Capricorn is saying go, go, go, and Mars is in Cancer is saying no, no, no.

Pluto is also in Capricorn, making a conjunction with this moon. For those of you that don’t speak astrology, this essentially means that the potential for transformation in the areas of life ruled by Capricorn are at an all time high. Pluto is the archetypal Hades of the zodiac, representing death and destruction. However, it is important to remember that with death, comes rebirth. Sometimes you have to destroy the old to find the space needed to create anew.

Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008 and will remain there through 2023. With Pluto in Capricorn, we are being called to transform our society and its governments. More and more people are coming to realize that the patriarchal system is no longer working. This full moon serves to strengthen that energy. Major social changes can take place around this full moon. It is no coincidence that the supreme court rulings in favor of marriage equality and women’s right to choose occurred just days before this moon.

While this energy is certainly affecting us as a collective, many of us will feel its impact on a personal level as well. You may begin to feel that your current structures and paradigms are no longer working. You may start to see things in a whole new way. Many will be called to make career changes in favor of finding more meaningful work.

This moon is in the 11th house which is ruled by Uranus. The 11th house is essentially another manifestation of the Aquarius archetype. What does this mean in layman’s terms? It means that the underlying theme of this full moon is freedom. Freedom from the patriarchal paradigm, freedom from unjust laws, and freedom from our personal chains.

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, who is currently retrograding in Scorpio. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto who is right smack dab in the middle of his 15 year transit through Capricorn. This is a double whammy here folks. Saturn and Pluto are essentially teaming up and telling us to get our shit together. We need to take care of old karma and release what no longer serves.

Alright, enough with the intensity. Not all of our planets are playing dark and dirty during this full moon. Beautiful Venus and expansive Jupiter are in partnership to bring us expanded opportunities for creativity, travel, inspiration, love, and success. Venus and Jupiter are forming a conjunction in Leo just a few hours before this full moon.

Leo is the archetype of the self. Venus in Leo reminds us of the importance of self-love. Jupiter in Leo brings us the opportunity for personal growth and liberation. Together, they are a pair of lucky stars. Expect potential windfalls and ‘right place at the right time’ kind of moments here folks!

This is a great time for stargazing. Venus and Jupiter will be just a few degrees apart and will look like a double star providing us a night sky that is not to be missed. Full moon and a double star. How does it get any better than that?
